European Roller — Kruger National Park, South Africa 2010

There were so many birds wherever we went, on our recent safari in South Africa, and I would try to shoot anything I saw. Unfortunately, birds are small (relatively speaking when compared to elephants and giraffes) and tended to be far away. So, even with a decent zoom, these shots were tough to get.
And even more unfortunately, not everyone in the truck was interested in stopping for bird shots, so I had to let many opportunities go by.
The colors of their feathers were so amazing — including the most lovely greens and blues. And then there were the mauves, and the purples, and the oranges, and the reds…I am a color freak. I was in color heaven.
Dedicated to my Flickr friend, Aaron, who shoots some of the best bird images I’ve seen. I have a long way to go to catch up to him, but I’m trying!
Cheers, Aaron! Enjoy!

PS Thanks to my granddaughter, Klyara, for helping me tweak the color in post processing.
